Backside Brewing

The adventure exploring all that Roseburg, OR has to offer continues as the Tots Crew seeks out yummy beer and delicious pub grub.

Green space, lawn games, and food bigger than your face

The more time we spend in Roseburg, OR, the more we realize how cool an area it truly is. The Umpqua Valley boasts not only some of the best wineries around, it also has some very noteworthy breweries. Even though we were visiting this region specifically to drink delicious wine, we of course had to shake it up a bit and throw in a few cold ones to cleanse the palate. You know, for science! As you can see, this whole "blogging about wineries, breweries, cideries, and tap houses" gig sure is rough but hey, somebody's gotta do it!

It was lunch time and the Tots Crew was famished. After all, no one ever said wine tasting all day was easy. We decided to head into the big city for some grub. For the size of town that Roseburg is, there's a pretty impressive brewery selection. We chose to hit up Backside Brewing because the food menu looked particularly appetizing. We are proud to report that this was absolutely the case but we must warn you...the portions are ginormous! Sharing is encouraged - unless you have the appetite of a small village. If that is the case, by all means, order your own entrée. Otherwise, prepare for leftovers!

*See below image for proof - that is ONE SANDWICH ENTREE SPLIT BETWEEN US.

Backside Brewing was started in 2012 by owner KC McKillip and his pal, neither of whom had any clue whatsoever about how to make beer. So logically, they decided to start a brewery! We admire this type of grit and are very glad that they persevered because they now have a pretty excellent tap list to satisfy all your beer drinking needs. Or if that's not your vibe, they have local wine, and a full bar with a very fun, rotating cocktail list.

Backside has a great variety of seating options to accommodate the varying needs of you and your tots. We opted to sit outside under the covered patio because it was a great spot to people watch. There were tots running around in the grassy space, playing corn hole and hanging out at picnic tables. The outdoor area has a great beer garden vibe. It was a very comfortable atmosphere and we definitely could have spent all afternoon there. If you get too comfortable though, Beans the Brewery Cat may swing by and rub up against your leg.

The indoor space has a nice mix of high-tip, low-top, and booth seating. There's a couple TVs if you want to catch the game. Backside also has some communal board games that you can play with your crew during your visit. And they have shuffleboard! Or feel free to bring your own tabletop activities to keep your tots occupied.

Be sure to follow Backside Brewing on social media. They get their fair share of live music (which tots tend to enjoy!) and also host some pretty cool events throughout the year.

Backside Brewing is an easy spot to enjoy with your tots. The people there are very nice, they have a solid menu, their beer is refreshing & diverse, and they have some great tot-friendly amenities. After all, their mantra is "Make. Great. Beer. Tip back a Backside brew and have some fun!" which makes this a hard spot not to enjoy in our opinion.
